Off Track Betting Locations in Arizona
The topic of horse racing in Arizona centers around two active tracks: Turf Paradise near Phoenix and Rillito Park in Tucson. Launched in 1954 by millwork founder Walter Cluer, locals thought Turf Paradise was doomed to fail as it was located far from downtown Phoenix and accessible at the time only by a patchwork maze of badly maintained dirt roads. Cluer persevered, however, and Turf Paradise opened its doors in 1956 to overwhelmingly positive reviews. The off-track betting era in the Copper State began in 1989 when it was introduced by Turf Paradise's third owner, Scottsdale-based entrepreneur Robert Walker. In 2015 Turf Paradise general manager Vincent Francia claimed the track has a "loyal and growing fan base."

Things are less certain at Rillito Park. It is a storied place, as it is the site of Triple Crown trainer Bob Baffert's first thoroughbred victory; it was also the first track in the U.S. to install a photo-finish camera. As of April 2016, the nonprofit foundation which runs the track had yet to come to an agreement on a long-term lease with Pima County, having had a five-year proposal rejected the previous December. Optimism remains because of the facility's affiliation with the University of Arizona's Race Track Management program.
As of 2016, off-track betting locations could be found in the Phoenix area, with about a dozen listed as "hybrids" where greyhound racing action was also available. Another nine or so can be found in and around Tucson, while another 15 are located in other areas of Arizona, including the Museum Club in Flagstaff, Gallagher's in Lake Havasu City and Rumors Soports Bar and Grill in Yuma, many of which carry simulcasts. Our preferred racebook partners can also handle your bets on any of the action at tracks in Arizona.
