North Dakota Horse Racing

North Dakota Horse Racing

The horse racing landscape in North Dakota is spare and made up of only two racetracks that race for a handful of days each year. Though the industry has been on life support for several years, it did see a resurgence in 2016 with the return of live racing at the North Dakota Horse Park. While the long term future of horse racing in North Dakota remains uncertain at best, there are still two racetracks who continue on.

North Dakota Race Tracks

Chippewa Downs

Located on the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians Reservation in Rolette County, North Dakota, Chippewa Downs features a half mile oval with a 350-yard stretch. The track hosts both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing over the course of their brief yearly-meet which spans 8 days over the summer, typically from June to July.

North Dakota Horse Park

The North Dakota Horse Park brought live racing back in 2016 after not hosting any horse racing in 2015. The return of horse racing received a warm welcome with nearly-record setting attendance and wagering numbers. Located in Fargo, the track hosted live racing for three consecutive weekends in July.
