Tom's Tribute Takes On Eight in $200,000 San Gabriel Stakes

On Saturday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the 68th edition of the $200,000 San Gabriel Stakes.  The Grade 2 race is scheduled to be run at a mile and an eighth on the turf and has drawn a field of nine colts and geldings.

Tom’s Tribute headlines the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 for trainer James Cassidy. A five-year-old son of Lion Heart, he has won six of his fifteen career starts, three of which came in 2014 against stakes competition. His most noteworthy win came in the Eddie Read (G1) and he was last seen finishing third in the Seabiscuit (G2) as the favorite. Mike Smith will remain aboard and they will break from the outside post.

Dynamic Sky heading to the West Coast for Casse

Second choice at 7-2 on the morning line is Dynamic Sky who will be making his first start at Santa Anita for trainer Mark Casse. A five-year-old son of Sky Mesa, he was on the board in six of his nine starts last year including a victory against graded stakes competition in the Red Smith (G3). The Ontario-bred gelding is just shy of the million dollar mark in earnings and has five total victories.  Corey Nakatani will be aboard for the first time from post three.

Power Ped trying to pull an upset and earn first stakes win

Neil Drysdale will saddle Power Ped, a longshot at morning line odds of 12-1. A five-year-old gelded son of Powerscourt (GB), he will be making his first start against graded stakes competition after a runner-up effort against optional claiming company in November. He has three wins from sixteen starts and was second in the Lure Stakes in his only other black-type start. Tyler Baze has the mount and they will break from post seven.
