Picks And Preview For The Super Derby

Based on both past success and the level of competition he has faced, Mo Tom is at 7-5 in the morning line for Saturday's Grade 3 race, and is a deserving favorite. He already has graded-stakes wins on his resume, and he most recently bounced back from an eighth-place run in the Kentucky Derby to win the (G3) Ohio Derby. Recently is relative here, however, as that race was almost three months ago, and so it will be interesting to see how he shakes off the rust. There's a possibility of an wet track as well, and mud could hinder his preferred late-closing style.
Texas Chrome (7-2) has run third, second and first in his last three tries, two of those being graded-stakes events that followed a handful of wins in lower stakes at a half-dozen different tracks. The win came at Louisiana Downs in the local prep for this race, and he should like a stretch out in distance to the 1 1/8 miles. Delmore (2-1) is the pre-race second choice, and should get a perfect stalking trip here, while Whateverybodywants (6-1) is another late-runner who could get up for a minor share.
The Super Derby goes Saturday, Sept. 10 from Louisiana Downs. Post time is 4:55 PM Eastern.
