Heart to Heart Headlines $100,000 Commonwealth Turf Stakes

On Saturday at Churchill Downs, a wide open field of thirteen three-year-olds will assemble for the $100,000 Commonwealth Turf Stakes. The Grade 3 race will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth on the grass.

Heart to Heart, riding a two-race win streak, has been installed as the 8-5 morning line favorite. Trained by Bryan Lynch, the Canadian-bred son of English Channel was last seen winning the Jefferson Cup (G3) at Churchill in September and has won three of his six starts this year. Julian Leparoux, aboard for his front-running victory last time out, has retained the mount and they will break from post five.

Bashart trying to return to winning form

Second choice at 6-1 on the morning line is Bashart who will break from the outside post under Luis Saez. Trained by Michael Matz, the bay son of War Front is winless from four starts this year. His best effort came last time out with a runner-up effort in the Kent Stakes (G3) at Delaware Park. As a juvenile, he won the With Anticipation Stakes (G2) and will be trying to earn the third win of his career.

Wallyanna going for fifth career win

Also in the field at 8-1 on the morning line is Wallyanna for trainer Michael Pino. A dark bay son of Langfuhr, he has won four of his eight career starts, all of which came this year. He was last seen finishing fourth as the heavy favorite in the Showing Up Stakes at Gulfstream Park West. In August, he earned the first graded stakes victory of his career in the Hall of Fame (G2) at Saratoga and will be reunited with Irad Ortiz, Jr.
