Grade 3 Edgewood Provides Oaks Precursor

In the prequel to the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks, the Grade 3 Edgewood should provide plenty of betting thrills May 6 at Churchill, as a full field of 13 is set to contest the mile and one sixteenth grass race for three year-old fillies.

Catch a Glimpse will break from post 10 as the 2/1 morning line favorite for trainer Mark Casse. The two year-old Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner is undefeated in five starts on grass, but was challenged last out winning the Grade 3 Appalachian by a diminishing three parts of a length over Edgewood foe Ava’s Kitten. Catch a Glimpse has effectively employed a stalk and pounce style in her victories that should once again give regular rider Florent Geroux plenty of options.

Another crack for Kitten

Ava’s Kitten (7/2) took a big step forward in her last start, recording a career best 87 Beyer Speed Figure while giving Catch a Glimpse all she wanted in the Appalachian. Jockey Javier Castellano returns as this Chad Brown trainee makes the third start of her form cycle. A quicker pace should flatter Ava’s Kitten’s late closing punch.

Live longshot ready to improve

Believe in Bertie (20/1) is working well at Churchill and could be ready to fire at a big price after just missing victory in a salty allowance field April 10 after nearly eight months on the bench. Believe in Bertie has won 1 of 2 career starts and has Beyer Speed Figures that put her right on the wire with slight improvement.
