Contention Goes Deep in Dream of Summer Stakes

The $100,000 Dream of Summer Stakes for California bred or sired fillies and mares is the featured race March 22 at Santa Anita as a field of six is set to contest the one mile event on the main track.

The Bob Baffert trained Sweet Marini is the 8/5 morning line favorite as she drops in class after finishing second in the Grade 2 Santa Monica Stakes and sixth in the Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes.  The five year-old daughter of Marino Marini has won 5 of 14 career starts for earnings of $411,668 and has finished worse than third just four times.  Jockey Draydan Van Dyke gets the call breaking from post four.

Wild in the Saddle with big chance

The hard-knocking veteran Wild in the Saddle is the 9/5 second choice on the morning line after defeating allowance foes February 20 in her last start.  The Richard Baltas trainee has recorded 7 wins from 33 career starts, bankrolling $229,318.  The six year-old Silic mare will be ridden by Rafael Bejarano and break from post five.

Grazenette worth a look

Grazenette (3/1) is another mare with a legitimate chance in the Dream of Summer as she tries stakes foes for the first time since finishing third in the Fleet Treat Stakes July 26 at Del Mar.  The four year-old daughter of Grazen finished third in an allowance race March 5 at Santa Anita after winning at the same level January 31.  Joe Talamo will ride for trainer Phillip D’Amato breaking from post six.
