Mountaineer Race Track
This home to horse racing action was not always hailed by the same name. Previous to the 1990 this horse race track was called the Waterford Park. Like so many race tracks around the country, the Mountaineer Race Track was authorized to have slot machines and in 1994 they installed them for their patrons to enjoy. Thanks to the revenue generated by these slot machines, the Mountaineer Gaming Group is able to offer outstanding purses for their races. Prior to the revitalizing effort, this race track was an old facility that's seen better days. The Mountaineer Race Track was transformed from simple a claiming ground to a full-fledged respectable racetrack.
The Mountaineer Race Track features one main dirt oval track that measures one mile in length. Inside of this track resides the seven furlongs turf track. Horse racing is not the only activity at the Mountaineer Race Track, there's also a full casino and entertainment center located on the premise. As mentioned, the quality of horse racing action at the Mountaineer Race Track has been dramatically improved. The purses and competition have increased, much to the delight of horse racing fans.
