Keeping with this tradition of excellence, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club spent the off-season enhancing its new horse racing venue and facility for the 2005 season. Adding to an already padded list of meets, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club bumped its events to 27 and topped the annual prize purse with another half million dollars, bringing the total offering to $6,775, 000, a Del Mar record for guaranteed winnings. The Pacific Classic remains the chart topper on the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club schedule. A Grade 1 feature for 3-year olds and older, a $1,000,000 dollar purse is sure to entice top riders and their mounts for this late summer classic. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's season runs from July 19th through September 6th. The Del Mar Race Track is located in the city of Del Mar, which is just 20 miles north of San Diego - a quick 15-20 minute drive for those in San Diego. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is dark every Tuesday. Generally, the first post is at 2pm. There are a few days during the season where post times are earlier or later. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is affordably priced too. Parking is just $6 and tickets start at a few dollars. Children are allowed if accompanied by a parent (and they must remain with the parent). Kids always receive free admission.
