Thistledown Horse RacingFounded in 1925 the Thistledown Racetrack is a one-mile oval located on 128 acres and is ten miles southeast of Cleveland, Ohio. They offer great race betting odds in a casual atmosphere and one of the longest racing seasons in the country. They also have a well-deserved reputation for having one of the finest thoroughbred dirt tracks in North America. Thistledown is owned by Magna Entertainment Corp. MEC has a stake in eight racetracks including Santa Anita Park and Gulfstream Park. The Thistledown racetrack is just ten miles southeast of Cleveland. The racetrack is at the corner of Emery Road and Warrensville Road just two blocks north of I-480 and a mile west of I-271. Parking and admission is free everyday at this top ranked Ohio thoroughbred horse racing track. 2010 Ohio Derby & Thistledown Special EventsThe crown jewel of the racing season at Thistledown is the Ohio Derby, a top stakes race for three years olds. The 1 1/16 mile race will be held on July 31, 2010 and is the only Graded Stakes Race that is run in the state of Ohio. The purse for the Ohio Derby is $100,000 and it is a Grade III Stakes Race. While it is down from the Grade II race it has been in the past, Thistledown management assures the horse betting public that they will "aggressively recruit the Midwest" to bring in the best possible field. They will also host 17 stakes races that include 11 races with a $50,000 purse and five races that will have a $75,000 purse. Thistledown will also simulcast the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes and Breeders Cup races during the 2010 horse racing season. From the beginning of May (except May 1st and June 1st) until September 4th, Thistledown shares a race card with River Downs Racetrack with seven races featured at each track. Online Horse Betting, Simulcast & Early Bird WageringYou can place a bet on any live race, with live odds, at Thistledown through any major online Internet wagering site. In addition to live racing, Thistledown offers full card simulcast horse racing from popular racetracks around the country seven days a week. They offer late night simulcast racing (until midnight) Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday so bettors can enjoy west coast horse racing. If you are an early riser who likes to beat the crowds, early bird wagering is available at the track on live racing days starting at 9:30 AM. The Earlybird Pavilion has self-serve machines and can be accessed through the gates at the west end of the grandstand apron. They have an early daily double (race 1 & 2) as well a late daily double (race 7 & 8). The also offer Pick 3's on the first six races of every card.
