The crown jewel of the racing season at Plainridge is the $75,000 Bert Beckwith Memorial Pace that is traditionally run as part of the Labor Day Weekend program. Pacing horse legend Maltese Artist won the Bert Beckwith Memorial twice and also set the track speed record at 1:49.2 on September 5, 2005 during the Beckwith Pace. Plainridge Racecourse - Track - Betting - InformationThe Plainridge Racecourse track is a 5/8-mile oval with spiral turns and was built in a classic European style. The track surface is made up of a gravel base with a stone dust composition that is topped with a screened stone dust layer. The length of the stretch run is 430 feet and the starting gate can hold up to nine pacers or trotters. The track has a speed rating of 2:00.2 and does not use a hub rail system or have an "open" stretch. The Clubhouse, Grandstand and Simulcast rooms have a combined capacity of 3,500 with free admission daily and the free general parking lot can hold up to 1,500 vehicles. In addition to the standard horse wagering options, Plainridge offers live wagering exotics as well. They include an early and late Daily Double, Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta wagering as well as a daily Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagering options. The wagering minimum is $1.00 and a $1.50 gets you a racing program. Plainridge Race Course Simulcast - EntertainmentBeing a relative newcomer to the horse racing industry, the horse betting public is able to enjoy state of the art facilities at Plainridge. There are two Simulcast theaters with 80" large screen TV's that can both accommodate up to 172 horseracing enthusiasts. Each seat has its own lighting with a 13" color TV. The "21 Club" simulcast room at Plainridge offers the ultimate in first class horse wagering. From individual granite top seating stalls with high back leather chairs and 15" LCD TV's to the HD large screen plasma TV wall, the 21 Club is the ultimate in class, convenience and comfort. Private groups of up to 20 people can enjoy one of the eight, brand new, VIP rooms that each house their own self-serve betting stations. If you are planning on hosting a larger group at the track, Plainridge can accommodate up to 500 guests in a private function setting. The Best Bet Café opens at noon daily and offers all the standard staples of delicious racetrack food and beverages.
