Philadelphia Park Facts:

Philadelphia Park was opened in 1974 under the name of Keystone. The racetrack enjoyed some success and in 1984 it was sold for $40 million. The new ownership decided on a name change - Philadelphia Park was borne. Ownership also decided to improve the facility by adding a brand new turf course and installing a then new way to wager, PHONEBET. Six years later, Philadelphia Park had a new owner - Greenwood Racing Inc. The new ownership further improved Philadelphia Park by adding full simulcasting and five off-track locations - Turf Clubs.

1999 was a banner year for Philadelphia Park. The entire establishment handled over $500 million in wagers. As you might imagine, purses went up as well- highest in the track's history. The track brought in CEO Hal Handel to improve performance and he did just that. His programs, like free admission at all facilities, were smashing successes. Standards were raised across the board. Millions of dollars were spent to give Philadelphia Park a whole new appearance. The racetrack was completely modernized and raised up the high standards set by Handel.

Philadelphia Park is home to many races, including the Pennsylvania Derby. The Pennsylvania Derby is Pennsylvania's premier stakes race. It's a $500,000 Grade III horse race that always draws the crowds. Each year top three-year-olds from all over come to compete in this nine furlongs race, which produces record handles for Philadelphia Park. The racetrack also features festivals and entertainment for people of all ages. Horse racing, carnivals, concerts and picnics are some of the things that make Philadelphia Park stand out in the crowd. It's easy to see why Philadelphia Park became a local favorite in Pennsylvania. Post times are just past noon and all the expected horse wagering options are on the table at Philadelphia Park.
