Oaklawn Park Begins Season With $100,000 Dixie Belle Stakes

On Friday, Oaklawn Park’s season will kick off with the $100,000 Dixie Belle Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies, the six-furlong contest has drawn a field of eight.

Durango headlines the field of sophomores as the 2-1 morning line favorite for trainer Randy Morse. Purchased for $475,000 as a juvenile, she has been on the board in all three starts and will be trying to notch her third career victory. She will be stepping up to stakes company for the first time and was last seen winning an optional claiming race at Churchill Downs. Quincy Hamilton will be aboard and they will break from post position seven.

Consistent Above Fashion going for second straight win

Second choice at morning line odds of 5-2 is Above Fashion for trainer Ron Faucheux. A bay daughter of Paddy O’Prado, the consistent filly has been on the board in seven of her eight starts and is a three-time winner. She earned her first stakes victory last time out in the Letellier Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds and will break from post position two under jockey Joe Rocco, Jr as she tries for her second straight black type victory.

Alien Giant back in action off of layoff

Also in the field at morning line odds of 7-2 is Alien Giant for trainer Robertino Diodoro. Owned and bred by Mercedes Stables, the chestnut filly is a daughter of Giant’s Causeway and is out of a graded stakes placed mare. She broke her maiden at first asking and has been on the shelf since finishing second in the Landaluce Stakes at Santa Anita in June. Chris Landeros will be aboard and they will break from post four.
