Eskenformoney Tops Wide Open Field of Eleven For $100,000 Monmouth Oaks

On Saturday at Monmouth Park, the featured race is the $100,000 Monmouth Oaks. A Grade 3 race for three-year-old fillies, the stakes will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth and has drawn a field of eleven.

Eskenformoney has been tabbed as the morning line favorite in the wide open field at odds of 7-2 for trainer Todd Pletcher. Purchased for $225,000 as a yearling by StarLadies Racing, the bay daughter of Eskendereya has won two of her eleven starts and will be trying for the first black type victory of her career. She is trying to move forward after finishing fifth in the Mother Goose Stakes (G1) and will have Joe Bravo in the irons from post position six.

Light the City trying for first graded stakes win

Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is Light the City for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. A bay daughter of Street Sense, she has been on the board in six of her nine starts and is a three-time winner. She rebounded after an eleventh-place finish in the Acorn Stakes (G1) to win an optional claiming race last time out and will be trying for the first graded stakes win of her career. Trevor McCarthy will be aboard and they will break from post eight.

Stakes debut for well-bred Lady Serena

Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Lady Serena, one of two fillies in the race for trainer Chad Brown. A bay daughter of Bernardini, she is a half-sister to the highly-regarded multiple Grade 1 winner Honor Code and will be making her stakes debut after winning her last two races. After her maiden win, she won an allowance at Belmont Park. Jockey Ruben Hernandez has picked up the mount and they are scheduled to break from post five.
